Events Outline Leading To Christmas:
* This year’s Woolwich Winter Warmer will have several elements:
* A Christmas Market based in General Gordon Square throughout the period;
* A main event on Saturday 8th December in General Gordon Square including a parade through the town centre;
* The Woolwich Winter Warmer 12 Days of Christmas from 11th December - 22nd December which will involve Carol singing in the square each afternoon and evening, including performances from The Royal Artillery Band, local community choirs, and school choirs;
* A fireworks finale event on Saturday 22nd December.
* In addition throughout the 12 Days period local business will be encouraged to give Christmas Shopping incentive discounts.
Key Dates and further detail:
* 19th November – Christmas Tree arrives in General Gordon Square. The tree will be erected, lit and decorated on the same day.
* 24th November – Christmas market begins. Wooden chalet style cabins will be erected along the path in General Gordon Square and will begin trading. They will sell Christmas food and gifts including Bratwurst, hot roast chestnuts, macaroons, personalised Christmas stockings and novelty hats.
* 8th December – Woolwich Winter Warmer main event. This will involve a stage, with programme of entertainment from 12 noon until 6pm. There will be small fairground rides in the square, an extended Christmas Market, live reindeer, and roving entertainers throughout the afternoon. The event will culminate in a Christmas parade which will depart the Public Hall, proceed down Market Street, into Calderwood Street, through into Powis Street by Marks and Spencer’s, and then down Powis Street to the market. It will end in General Gordon Square. There will be a Christmas sing along to end the festivities.
* 11th - 22nd December – The Woolwich Winter Warmer 12 days of Christmas begins. Each afternoon from around 3:30pm there will be a small lighting / audio rig around the Christmas tree to create a performance area. Local choirs and schools have been invited to sing. Local shops and business to give Christmas shopping spending incentive / discounts.
* 14th December – The Royal Artillery Band will march down from the Barracks and perform for 45 minutes in General Gordon Square from 2pm-2:45pm.
* Saturday 22nd December – Fireworks finale. There will be roving entertainers from 2:30-5:30pm around General Gordon Square and the Town Centre. The Big Screen will show A Muppets Christmas Carol, and the fireworks will be launched at 5pm.
* Monday 24th December – Last day of trading for the Christmas Market.
