TECHNOLOGY GIANT GOOGLE LOSES KEY STAFF TO CHINESE RIVAL by Benson Agoha

Hugo Barra, one of the top executives at Google has announced to his 32,154 Google+ contacts that he will be leaving the internet giant in a few weeks.

The new destination for the VP, Android Product Management at Google, is a Chinese smart phone maker, called Xiaomi.

The Android technology expert said he was leaving Google, after nearly 5½ years, during which he spent almost 3 years as a member of the Android team, to assist the Chinese phone maker in their global expansion drive.

He said he was joining the Chinese firm `to help them expand their product portfolio and business globally'. He will be joining the firm in the capacity of Vice President, Xiaomi Global.

Mr. Barra said "I'm really looking forward to this new challenge, and am particularly excited about the opportunity to continue to help drive the Android ecosystem".
