WOOLWICH FRIENDLY `ENCOUNTER' LANDS MAN IN HOSPITAL by Sonny Jones

An `encounter' between two friends in Woolwich, landed a 29 year old man in hospital lastnight.

The pair were first noticed around 8.05pm besides Wilkinson Stores, Wilmount Street, Woolwich when the man fell on the ground beside a big skip after a slap from his friend. He got up after about one minute and they walked on towards the General Gordon Square.

But by-standers were amazed when the pair got physical again at the Square at 8.10pm and the same man fell down again with a broken nose.

Emergency services were called in. Two police vehicles and three paramedic vehicles arrived the scene shortly and took the bleeding man into their mobile clinic.

Eyewitnesses were stuned when the injured man told police that he simply tripped over and broke his nose. He was later taken to Queen Elizabeth hospital for further treatment at 8.17pm.

No arrest was made, although police got the details of the injured.
