NIGERIA'S PRESIDENT IN LONDON FOR INVESTORS COUNCIL MEETING by Benson Agoha

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan is in London this week to host a meeting of the Honorary International Investors’ Council (HIIC). He was accompanied by Dr Nurudeen Mohammed, Nigeria's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, and senior government officials.

Dr. Reuben Abati, Presidential Spokesman to Presidency, President Goodluck was temporarily indisposed on Thursday and saught a precautionary medical checkup. He has since been declared fit and discharged.

Dr. Abati said President Jonathan recovered to preside over the HIIC meeting.

Also in attendance is Baroness Lynda Chalker, Co-ordinator of the Honorary International Investment Council (HIIC) on behalf of President Jonathan Goodluck.

The HIIC is an organisation of prominent investors from around the world that advises the Nigerian government on matters pertaining to her economic development.

The council's goals include `reducing political corruption, helping Nigeria to become Africa's biggest oil producer, attracting investment in the country from the private sector and from foreign countries, and making Nigeria more competitive in the global economy.'

Nigeria is an important market with a population of over 170 million, a strong GDP and the potential to make meaningful impact in the world.

Prime Minister David Cameron was once quoted as saying that "Nigeria is a dream waiting to happen".

The HIIC was set up in 2004 and holds meetings twice yearly.
