Syria: Assad Grants Amnesty To 366 Rebels by Benson Agoha

Syrian authorities have today released hundreds of rebels fighting to topple the government of President Bashar assad on humanitarian grounds.

According South African News24, 366 detainees have been freed from Aleppo prison in the north of the country which has been under rebel siege for months.

The amnesty for the rebels was started on Thursday, when 10 prisoners were first released with a promise that more would follow.

The change of heart is a welcome development as Seria prepares for a UN sponsored peace talk to end the civil war which has claimed the lives over 100.000 of it citizens and displaced millions.

Though the number of freed prisoners represent about 10% of the over 3.000 held at the Aleppo's central prison, it is a major strategic move as both sides get ready for the Wednesday, January 22 Peace Talk in which 32 countries are expected to attend.

Meanwhile, both sides are reportedly still fighting in a war that has seen several children handling bombs and assault rifles.
