When a Manchester United fan called Police on 999 just to speak to Sir Alex Ferguson after poor result on Wednesday night, it was time for Police to send out a reminder of what the `999' Emergency number is for.
The Greater Manchester Police (GMP Manchester North) posted a notice on its facebook page reminding the public that despite the fallout of a football result, the `999 is to be used for emergencies only'. they said.
The incident happened at about 10.30pm on Wednesday when the man from Crumpsall area of North Manchester called in a drunken state and demanded to speak to Manchester United's now retired former coach.
Sir Alex Ferguson, who handed over to former Everton FC boss, David Moyes last season, managed Manchester United from 1986 to 2013, and left with a haul of silverware.
But police say "Obviously, it can be a sad and depressing moment when you’re football team loses a game, however can we all please remember that 999 is to be used for emergencies only. For any other police related enquiries that are not an emergency, you can ring 101."
To speak to Sir Alex Ferguson, police say they can only suggest you contact the football club directly..."as you will probably (not definitely) have a much better chance of getting through to him there, rather than ringing the police" the statement read.
