WOOLWICH: NHS TAKE OVER THE GENERAL GORDON SQUARE TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC by Sonny Jones

This is the moment the General Gordon Square, Woolwich, played host to eye-catching fellas called `Yellowmen' on Thursday, 9th January, 2013.

Residents arriving or passing the square early in the morning were greeted by the fellas as they were positioned in strategic parts of the Square. The programme held between 9am-5pm.

The scheme organised by the NHS as part of its `NOT ALWAYS A&E' education scheme saught to enlighten the public on various other services available at the NHS besides the A&E section.

* Residents visited the square to listen to NHS officials explaining various alternative ways to stay healthy.

NHS's creative new approach is part of its Winter Campaign, expected to help reduce congestion at A & E sections in hospitals and educate people on which of their other services are best placed to treat them for specific ailments.

Residents stopped and listened to smiling staff of the NHS as they handed out flyers and talked to them about the various alternative sections to the A&E, available for treatment of their illness.

The YellowMen is a family of 12 sculptures, measuring 7 feet tall and painted bright yellow to enhance attraction.

All the figures showed different positions of people suffering from a different ailments and the various spots under affliction are colour coded and wore armbands which indicate the NHS facility patients could visit for treatment.
