* Partial Eclipse.
The above photo, released by NASA yesterday, shows the moment the Moon partially got between NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) satelite and the sun.
NASA, it started about 8.31am EST on Thursday January 30, 2014, and lasted two and a half hours, during which it created a partial solar eclipse from space. NASA said, "..such a lunar transit happens two to three times each year", and this one is the longest ever recorded.
It is not yet known when the next one will occure as NASA plans to adjust the SDO's orbit, but as the moon passed by, the sun emitted a mid-level solar flare that peaked at 11:11 a.m. EST, NASA said.
When looking at the image, NASA advises viewers to "..note in the picture how crisp the horizon is on the moon, a reflection of the fact that the moon has no atmosphere around it to distort the light from the sun."
