WOOLWICH: Lidl Supermarket's efforts to increase inflow of customers, as it gets to grips with increasing local competition is moving in the right direction, shoppers tell us.
The high street budget store has introduced an instore bakery, churning out fresh bakes on a hour hourly basis and their customers are delighted. Some say, they can even come into the store just for pastries.
In addition to the fresh bakes, which by the way appear to literally fly off the shelves, Lidl has made other changes that ranged from installing more chillers, creating more spaces, increasing product ranges in both fresh or ready meals and grocers. It has also refitted more sections while re-organising of others.
And they are not done yet as, in the next 6 months, more instore changes are planned, to complete a `new look' design in response to changes around them.
Already, the changes have resulted in positive news to both private and business customers, and a lot more footfalls, say the Store Manager.
He said "our regular promotions are also on-going and there has indeed been lot's of footballs that can be related to the changes, especially the bakery."
Adding that Lidl's freshbakes have advantage over bakes from the compeition because they are baked and sold on a half hourly basis, making them ready and freshly available to the customer.
With the increase in footfalls, he says, comes additional pressure necessitating recruitment, which must of course, be good news.
