by Benson Agoha

President Putin of Russia has spoken out on the situation in Ukraine in a live Question and Answer session.
* President Putin: there should be "neither 'green men' nor 'liberal hamsters', but "lets deepen our conversation culture." Russia will not rebuild an iron curtain, adding "We will not close our country to anyone else."

In his responses cast live on Youtube, he answered questions on Crimea, Ukraine, NATA, Alaska, President Obama, as well as inception of people's communication.

One such question include a complaint that a lady's salary is being reduced by 20% to be conmensurate with what is being paid in Russia. Putin said such issues are determined by municipal authorities.
And will Russia make a compromise on Ukraine? President Putin said "Russian compromise not the issue but compromise by Ukrainians with each other".
When did Russia make the decision to annex Crimea? Putin said the "Final decision to return Crimea to Russia [was] based on referendum result landslide."

He said "Russia didn't acquire Crimea by force but created conditions with special forces for Crimeans to decide," adding "Ukraine is not a 'damned land'. Nationalism [is] strong because state and people have suffered historically".
But criticised the government in Ukraine saying "Ukraine's govt cannot be legitimate and has no mandate. We communnicate at ministerial level." He asked "What kind of campaign sees candidates beaten and humiliated by impune extremists?"

President Putin said that Ukraine's presidential candidate Poroschenko has large business in Russia and says he knows Tymoshenko personally, adding "she had [a0 breakdown, called for shooting Russians, unleashing tanks, jets against their own people! Are they out of their minds?, he asked.

Will Russia move to retake Alaska from the United States? Putin asked "Why do you need Alaska?" He said Russia sold Alaska to the United States at about the same time that France sold Louisiana to them for $7.2m in gold.
* With US President Barak Obama: Obama is "brave and courageous.."

"Alaska is very cold," he said adding "so let's not be over enthusiastic about it." He said even if Russia has workers there, they will have to pay too much because of its location."

When asked about NATO, President Putin said NATO's "'missile defence' is an offensive system threat that US refuses to negotiate on." and is he worried about NATO's expansion, he said he has no fear and that "nether I nor anyone should fear NATO expansionism."

President Putin said NATO chief secretly recorded their talk and leaked it to media, and asked 'How can I trust him?'

Putin said he was "Not ashamed of my (sanctioned) friends. They learned of Crimea from TV, but also wept with joy" and criticised Ukraine leadership for the current operation to regain eastern cities recently occupied by protesters.  He said "Tanks and jets against [your] own people?! Are they nuts?!"

When asked what the next plan was, he said: "we'll wait another month, then Ukraine will have to pre-pay for gas deliveries", adding there could be a disruption to supply.

When asked about EU partners he said "It's hard to talk to people who whisper in their homes, fearing that Americans are listening, adding "Americans think they can interfere at will all over world [affairs] like (Iraq, Libya), yet Russia can't defend its interests"

And when Edward Snowden, the American who is holed up in Russia asked him whether Russia intercepts, stores or analyses communication of millions of individuals, President Puten answered saying special services are strictly regulated by law and Russia "don't have NSA-style power & technology."

On how to build a better relationship with the world he said there should be "neither 'green men' nor 'liberal hamsters', but "lets deepen our conversation culture." He said Russia will not rebuild an iron curtain, adding "We will not close our country to anyone else."

When a six year old asked him "Do you think Obama would have saved you if you were drowning?", he said President Obama "is brave and courageous, [and] of course he would".

President Putin found it funny when a man complained of lack motorable road asked what he planed to do about it, but said "why do you need car if there is no road? It's like a provocation".
