Sainsbury’s has been named as Times top employer for women.
The Supermarket was recognised for its proactive approach to female career development, including actively engaging with future business leaders through a group known as "Inspiring the Future".

The Supermarket was recognised for its proactive approach to female career development, including actively engaging with future business leaders through a group known as "Inspiring the Future".
In a press release, Sainsbury's said the group which links volunteer mentors with schools and colleges to promote careers now have nearly 300 Sainsbury's volunteers which have signed up to the scheme.
It said the figure was in addition to the 500 women who are already on one of their own mentoring programmes and leadership pathways.
Sainsbury's Managing Director for General Merchandise, Clothing and Logistics and Board sponsor for Gender Diversity at Sainsbury’s, said Sainsbury's was proud of the recognition, which came because of "our progressive approach to inspiring and developing people."
Burnley said “Being an inclusive employer is part of Sainsbury’s heritage – from the first female store managers in the 1940s, to today where a third of our operational board and departmental directors are women."
"We work incredibly hard to promote the many career opportunities in a business of our size, scale and reach. So today’s announcement shores up our position as a destination for people who want to grow and develop with us, and a business where there is no glass ceiling.”
She said Sainsbury's diversity was an integral part of the goal of being the most inclusive place to work and shop, adding "We have robust policies in place, but we are constantly aspiring to do more. With sponsorship from board level we have targeted priority areas that will help us achieve this.”

Burnley said it was important that they maintain the standard and to actually go further than that to make sure they always have a great place to work.
