Smarting from it's lesser than expected final trading results for the previous year, Tesco is relishing their new crown after sweeping the board at The Grocer’s Own-Label Food and Drink Awards - a prestigious industry awards for grocers and sellers of food and drinks.
Tesco picked a total of 50 Awards, ahead of the competition.
In a recent News release, Tesco said it’s newly revamped `finest' range scooped 22 awards, representing nearly a third of the total awards available.
The statement said overall, the retailer picked up 29 Gold and 21 Silver Awards, more than any other supermarket.
It came after a research by Cambridge Market Research which found that Tesco's `finest' products range were seen as “new and different” by about 67% of consumers, compared with 51% for all other entrants.
The researcher say Tesco's 'finest' lines were also considered to be of good value, with 14 of the winning lines scoring higher than the category average, according to the statement.
Tesco's Commercial Director, John Scouler said, “We are absolutely delighted to have won so many awards for the quality of our food."
He said that over the last few years, Tesco have done a huge amount of work to improve their own label products, and "the ` finest' range is now benchmarked against the very best food on the market and these awards show that we’re getting it right", adding "even more importantly, our customers tell us that they love the new products.”
Paul Beresford, MD of Cambridge Market Research, and Awards judge said, “While consumers are turning to discounters for everyday basics, they still seek out treat-worthy but good value purchases."
"Tesco has clearly found a winning formula for its premium range,” Mr. Beresford said
