Monument in London: `NIKE', The Ancient Goddes of Victory

Our choice of London Monuments for this week is Nike [pronounced Neekay] and known in Greece as the Ancient Greek Goddess of Victory. It stands at nearly 20ft tall and resembles a pair of antelope's ears, but it is in fact a pair of wings like that born by angels.

Nike have been scultured in different forms by different sculptors over the years, but each always showed her as an angel. This time, Spirit of the Games Sculptor, Pavlos Angelos Kougioumtzis, introduced a different perspective to the design.

Nike and her siblings were reportedly close companions of Zeus, the dominant deity of the Greek Pantheon - a temple in which several gods are on display.
