During her speech, Cllr Hyland thanked Pastor Michael Olawore and all of those who had spoken before her for their excellent contributions, saying "It's all about caring."

She said New Wine Church stands out "like a ‘beacon’, not just becuase of its iconic building called The Gateway House, but for the many works they do to improve the wellbeing of people in the community, add “It’s all about improving the lives of the people of the Borough.”

She said the programmes of the church means so much for people - to have a sense of companionship and she warned that “With more cuts expected in the next five years in benefits and other areas, the `Church' is going to be needed”.

Cllr Denise Hyland recognized all the newly elected officials and said they are all good MPs who will look after the welfare of their constituent members.

She expressed delight as she recognised the appointment of an African Deputy to the New Mayor of the Royal Borough, in the person of Cllr Olu Babatola but chose not to talk say more on that.

Continuing, the Borough Leader said “it’s true that we have lots of heritage buildings in our borough, but she said it is the people that matter."

She recalled the recent Earthquake that hit Nepal two times within weeks and said villages were completely destroyed, rendering survivors homeless for which tons and tons of relief materials have had to be be shipped.

She said responses to Royal Greenwich appeal was good and a target of £15,000 was also reached, all raised with the support of several donors.

The Borough Leader said though she was not a fan of conservative politics, she could take something out of statement credited to former US Republican President, Ronald Reagan who said: “You make a living from what you get, but you make a life from what you give!”

Awards presented to some of the MP and officials of the Council represented a symbol of the relationship between New Wine Church and the Royal Borough of Greenwich .

And when presented with an Award, the Leader re-echoed Teresa Peace MP's promise to display it in a prime position from where she can show it to her children, and say to them "listen to your mother".
