Jessica Alba, Actress and model builds $1 Billion Company, selling `Peace Of Mind' - (Forbes)

Jessica Alba is not an uncommon name and face in celebrity circles, but what many do not know is that this actress and model is also an industrialist of huge financial worth, with a personal fortune of $200 Million.

According to Forbes, Jessica Alba, born April 28, 1981 owns a company known as The Honest Company, inspired by "by a need that wasn’t being filled."

Forbes said in 2008 Alba was newly engaged to Internet entrepreneur Cash Warren and pregnant with their first child.

But at a baby shower thrown by family and friends, she remembers her mother advising her to use baby detergent to prewash the piles of onesies she’d received as gifts. So she used a mainstream brand and "immediately broke out into ugly red welts, harkening back to a childhood spent in and out of emergency rooms and doctors’ offices."

So she did the sensible thing.  She spent late nights on Google and Wikipedia researching the contents not just of the offending detergent but also of everything in her bathroom cabinet and under her kitchen sink and wondered about the safety of such products.

“I was like, ‘How can this be safe for babies if I’m having this type of reaction?’” she says.

Forbes said Alba 34,  made some terrifying finds from her searches: petrochemicals, formaldehydes and flame retardants in everyday household products from floor cleaners to mattresses.

"Some were listed on the ingredients label plain as day, with others disguised under the catchall of “fragrance,” which is entirely legal." the report says.

So she made print outs of her finds and went shopping, then attempted making her own `safe' product, but found it impossible.  So she asked.
