New Mayor of Royal Greenwich inaugurated

Councillor Norman Adams was officially installed as the Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich on Tuesday (May 19) at a ceremony held in the Painted Hall, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich SE10.
            
Councillor Olu Babatola will serve as the new Deputy Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

Councillor Norman Adams was born in Paddock Wood and grew up locally in Charlton and Kidbrooke. He attended Kidbrooke Park Primary School and Shooters Hill Grammar School before graduating from the London School of Economics with a degree in Government.

He started work as trainee accountant with the London Borough of Lewisham and later worked in the old Greater London Council Architect's Department as a Trainee Building Surveyor as well as various other industry jobs.

Councillor Adams has served as a Councillor for Royal Borough of Greenwich since 1978 representing Rectory Field Ward and then Kidbrooke with Hornfair Ward.

He has held the posts of Vice Chair Housing, Chair of Planning, Deputy Leader, Vice Chair Direct Services, Chair of the Pension Fund, and Chair of Highways.

The Mayor’s chosen charities are the Early Dove School, in Lusaka - Zambia and also fundraising for a sensory garden at the Greenwich and Bexley Community Hospice.

Speaking at the official inauguration, Councillor Norman Adams said: “It is with considerable pleasure and pride that I accept the position of Mayor of the Royal Borough of Greenwich for the forthcoming municipal year," adding "I grew up in the borough and attended school here so it is an area I hold very close to my heart."

He said "My chosen charities are in desperate need for more donations and I hope we can raise as much money as possible for them.”
