A Fox News report say confirmed an attack on police by multiple suspects who were using automatic weapons.
They "opened fire on police officers outside Dallas Police headquarters, before one man fled the scene in what witnesses say was an armored van," the report said. People ran for safety, some out of their residence.
A bag of suspected explosive was found on the spot and the exact number of people involved could not be ascertained due to conflicting eye-witness accounts, fox news said
A police chase that ensued has ended in an ongoing standoff at a nearby parking lot where additional shots were fired, Fox News reported with and army official confirming on Twitter that explosives were left behind on the scene, one of which exploded on its own.
Maj. Max Geron tweeted the following: #breaking As the Explosive Ordinance Robot attempted to move one of the bags @DallasPD HQ, the bag exploded on its own #DallasPDShooting.
Later he provided an update saying two explosive devices were found, but all suspected packages have been cleared.
At the time of going to press, Major Geron's update said the police were now "working as quickly as we can to get people back into their residences near @DallasPD HQ".
But this could still be several hours away.
