Labour Party whittles down Leadership Candidates to four

Still in search of a new Leader, The Labour Party has whittled down candidates to just four - made of two men and two women.

Andy Burnham has the most nominations (68), Followed by Yvette Cooper (59), Liz Kendall (41) and Jeremy Corbyn (36).

Harriet Harman (pictured right), Interim Leader of the Labour Party is not running.

The four leaders will debate each other in a BBC2 special Newsnight hustings tomorrow, Wednesday 17 June, 2015, starting at 7pm.


Below read a bit more about the four candidates are:

Liz Kendall, MP for Leicester West: who attends Commons as the Shadow Minister for Care & Older People. She was the Director of the Ambulance Service Network.
She has nominations from 41 MPs and said: "I have spent my life trying to help make our society fairer and our public services better."

Jeremy Corbyn, MP for Islington North: who was a former trade union rep and official.
He said Labour was founded to stand up to injustice, and that he is running to "to work with you to right the many wrongs we see around us." He has nominations from 36 MPs.

Yvette Cooper, MP for Normanton, Pontefract and Castleford: who has been a known face and voice in the Labour. She said Labour can win the next election and must win for the sake of the fairer, stronger and less divided society and that the new leader has to be ready to hit the ground running --­­ not try and learn on the job. She has nominations from 59 MPs.

Andy Burnham, MP for Leigh: who was on the lip of the media as a favourite replacement to Ed Miliband, says his vision is to make Labour the Party that helps everyone get on in life. He says if elected Leader, he will "lead a Party that helps every person, every family and every business - whoever they are, wherever they come from - get on in life." He has nominations from 68 MPs.

Voting will open on 14 August, 2015, according to the Interim Leader, Harriet Harman.
