by Our Correspondent | Greenwich

Royal Greenwich and Hadlow College are throwing open the doors of the exciting Royal Borough of Greenwich Equestrian Skills and Riding Centre at Shooters Hill – in a community open day which will showcase all that the centre offers.

The free Open Day this Saturday offers the ideal opportunity for anyone thinking about further education options, or a career working with horses, to come and see the first class facilities on offer.

The Equestrian Centre was established after the London 2012 Olympics as a key legacy project in the borough and to provide residents with the chance to access training and qualifications in the equestrian sector – with courses led by the Outstanding Land-based Hadlow College.

Residents can study a number of courses at the Centre leaving with excellent chances of getting a job in the equestrian industry, from working as a groom to working in equine welfare and therapy.

A riding centre has also been set up at the Centre, with discounted rates for local residents who want to try out riding through a bursary scheme and also through our Adult Education Programme.

The Open Day, on Saturday 13 June, will showcase all aspects of the centre and visitors – who need to pre-book tours - will be able to see riding displays, various demonstrations and get the chance to meet the horses.

Councillor Sizwe James, Royal Borough of Greenwich Cabinet Member for Business and Employment said: “The Royal Borough of Greenwich Equestrian Skills and Riding Centre is a first class facility in the borough and I really urge people to come along to the open day to see it for themselves. Anyone in the borough considering their further education options, or who are looking to train in the equine sector really should come along and see what’s on offer – it could open a whole new career path!

Through our skills centres we are offering our residents many options to access training and qualifications in sectors with really good sustainable employment options”.

Mark Lumsdon-Taylor, Hadlow group director of finance and resources, said:  “We are delighted to be working with The Royal Borough of Greenwich to increase the opportunities for local people to benefit from exceptional tuition in world class facilities.  Interest in equestrianism is growing and thriving and the additional courses will make a significant contribution”.
