Here Comes The New James Bond - And He is Black.

In the end, it has turns out that David Oyelowo, rather than Idris Elba, will be first black man to play the James 007 Secret Service role. Athough he will be heard and not seen.  Still a good start to being Mr. Bond.

According to Ben Arnold, Oyelowo himself confirmed he was invited by the Ian Flemming Estate to take up the role, describing it as `special'

For long, rumour had it that Idris Elba maybe in line as the next Bond after the incumbent Daniel Craig.

Speaking of his delight at the appointment, Oyelowo said: “I am officially the only person on planet Earth who can legitimately say: ‘I am the new James Bond’ – even saying that name is the cinematic equivalent of doing the ‘to be or not to be’ speech,” adding “I was asked specifically by the Fleming estate, which is really special.”

Speaking about the previous talk of Elba taking up the role, he said: “A titan on screen, he has all the qualities that you’d want in a James Bond. Because films and TV affect culture, a black Bond would be a cultural event. A statement… beyond just entertainment.”

According to the terms of the appointment, Oyelowo's first job will be to play Bond, and other characters, in ‘Trigger Mortis’, penned by Anthony Horowitz from a commission by the Fleming estate.

“What an honour to have an actor as talented as David to read my take on Bond. He has a brilliant voice and talent for bringing out the nuances of dialogue and characters,” Horowitz added.

Not surprising though that David Oyelowo and not, Idris Elba that has emerged as the new Bong, because as a commentator remarked during an awards ceremony in January, 2015 "You know you have broken through, when Brad Pitt sings your name," referring to the sing-along led by Brad Pitt for Oyelowo during the Palm Springs Film Festival on Saturday 3rd January, 2015.

Pitt was on stage to present the star Breakthrough Performance Award for his portrayal of Dr Martin Luther King, Jr. in `Selma'.

On that occasion Brad Pitt had said "With any great performance comes controversy and questions," adding "I know that there is one lingering question in the back of your minds. It's a fundamental question, I think it's only fair that we air it out tonight, and that question is: how the hell do you pronounce his name?"

Pitt went ahead to break the name down for the audience and then got them to sing-along with him. Watch Brad Pitts tribute below:

But who gets to play the Bond Girl this time around?
