Niki Minaj, Gbesere Among Artists Whose Songs Have Been Banned By Nigeria

by Benson Agoha | Entertainment

Anaconda, Nicki Minaj's song which has been more viewed than 500 millions times on YouTube is among songs recently banned by the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation.

The list contains the names of the following artists Phyno, Davido, Olamide, wizkid, Iyanya, Nicki Minaj, and others as contained in the list below.

Nigeria, where same-sex relationships are still illegal, despite efforts by America to persuade African countries to reverse their laws, takes graphics videos such as Minaj's Anaconda, seriously.

But it is not only videos of that nature. In fact many `bad boy or bad girl videos' promoting unacceptable cultures such as violence, ostentatious lifestyles or indecent exposures are affected. And both local and international artists were similar censored.

According to reports by the Nigerian Media, the NBC directed media organisations not to play such songs because of their effect on the psyche and culture of the Nigerian society. No depiction of violence, vulgar lyrics and or extravagant lifestyles are to be promoted by the local media.

But is Nicki Minaj aware of the ban? We can't tell. But yesterday, she tweeted the following message "When ppl r unhappy w/themselves they tend to blame & victimize others. Taking ownership of ur actions causes u to excel at a quicker pace."

The list of artists whose music/songs are not to be broadcast in Nigeria is show below:
