Harvard's All Male Spee Club Invites Women To Punch For First Time

Final Year Students of Harvard have invited women to their all-male punch club for the first time.

Traditionally an all-male club, Spee Club hosts punching sports as part of a macho display for final year male students, but this year, it is set to change.

Reports in the Harvard Crimson said the historic move will see one of Harvard's finals clubs admit women to punch alongside male counterparts for the first time.

And the Spee Club have already sent out invitations to Harvard's year two students. The sophoremores were invited to a reception next week at the Spee Club.

Matthew E. Lee, Spee Club president told the Crimson that the club’s members had “voted to welcome all genders in their Fall Punch.”

But the historic move appears not to have gone down well with all the students as some consider change crazy.

Harvard also hosts five all-female clubs in addition to their male counterparts, but the women’s groups are relatively new additions to the College’s social scene.

"Male final clubs have embedded themselves, structurally and symbolically, in Harvard’s history for more than a century."

None of the male clubs however, currently has official Harvard recognition, after their relationship broke-down because of their refusal to admit women. It's all set to change now.
