After the gruesome incident, which occurred a few days ago, the fighter has reportedly gone underground, fearing a backlash.

According to the story, a 28-year-old Iraqi national discovered his wife was being harassed by the unnamed Iraqi leader while he was away fighting on the front line. He confronted his local leader and then beheaded him before fleeing the scene.

The incident has prompted the Islamic State to issue urgent orders to catch the killer either alive or dead and to deliver him to one of its headquarters in Sharqat district where it captured in June 2014 Yahoo News reported.

The fate of the runaway fighter's wife is unclear, according to the story, but women living under IS-controlled areas, such as those within the Salah al-Din Province, face a life of brutal violence and rape.

The gruesome incident occurred on 23 September in the area of Sharqat district in Salah al-Din just north of Baghdad.
