Muslim Group Asks Ben Carson To Withdraw From The Presidential Race

by Benson Agoha | International

A Muslim has asked Ben Carson, popular US neurosurgeon and current presidential candidate to withdraw from the Presidential race, on the basis of a statement he allegedly made to the effect that he would not support a Muslim to become an American President.

Here is what happened. On Sunday, he appeared on a "Meet the Press" during which he was asked: "Do you believe that Islam is consistent with the Constitution?"

He responded: "No, I do not," adding "I would not advocate that we put a Muslim in charge of this nation. I absolutely would not agree with that."

But the statement has had a dual effect on his aspiration.

First, he was forced to clarify his statement after a seeming backlash, with one Muslim group asking him to withdraw from the race because he does not believe in the constitutional provisions.

Second, media reports say funding has been pouring in since the comment.

Today, he maintains that he believes an American president must have values that are in line with the Constitution. And therefore, would expect a Muslim aspirant to renounce the any beliefs that go contrary to the constitution.

Dr. Carson said, America does not have a theocracy and that the American constitution has a judo-christian base.

He said Muslims aspiring to become President must be ready to place the American constitution above their personal values, and abandon the theocratic base of the Quoran if they become President.
