Royal Greenwich Parents Urged To Take A Good Look Before Making Secondary School Decision

The application period for secondary schools in the Royal Borough of Greenwich starts today Tuesday (1 September), and the Council is reminding parents that it pays to have a good look around and get as informed as possible before deciding on a secondary school for their child.

Parents can do that during September and October when the Royal Borough’s secondary schools highlight what they offer to prospective pupils through various open days.

The Royal Borough continues to offer excellent education opportunities through its secondary schools and the number of Greenwich students achieving five or more A* - C grades at GCSE including English and Mathematics remains above the national average.

The application period for secondary schools starts on 1 September and closes on 31 October. The date for the outcome of applications is 1 March 2016.

Cllr John Fahy, Deputy Leader of the Royal Borough and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “The Council is committed to working with local secondary schools to ensure that young people in Greenwich have the best possible start in life," adding that "Pupils studying in the Royal Borough have access to excellent learning opportunities and in our latest GCSE results, the proportion of Greenwich students passing at A* - C remains above the national rate and this includes English and Maths."

The Deputy Leader said: “I highly recommend that parents attend open days at schools in Royal Greenwich, which will allow them to explore all the opportunities available and learn what secondary education means for their children.”
