Local residents can bag a bargain and enjoy festive entertainment on 19 November as Eltham lights up returns to illuminate Eltham High Street for the 16th annual Christmas lights switch on.

It is the sixteenth year in a row the Royal Borough of Greenwich has funded the popular free event which will see the Town Centre awash with lanterns, costumes, dance, street theatre and floats between 4 and 8pm.

Clive Efford MP
The event is all part of the Council’s commitment to supporting local businesses and encouraging residents to support their local High Street in the run up to the busy Christmas shopping period.

Shops in Eltham like Marks and Spencer, JD Sports, Peacocks and Next will stop open for late night shopping and will be offering a number of special offers using their Greenwich One Card (Greenwich Card).

Eltham Lights Up starts with entertainment on the main stage, which this year will be based at Passey Place and will include local acts like All the Arts and the Hulviz Amateur Musical Society.

The Mayor of Greenwich, Councillor Norman Adams (top), will join local MP, Clive Efford (top right) , to switch on the Christmas lights at 6pm.

Cllr Miranda Williams
It will be followed by a lantern parade of local school children which this year will be themed around the UNESCO Year of the Light celebrations.

Councillor Miranda Williams (left), the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Cabinet Member for Culture & Creative Industries said: “Eltham Lights Up is a much loved event which offers something for all the family. "

"Thousands of people turn out every year and get into the Christmas spirit whilst supporting their local shops. I would encourage as many people as possible to get involved in order to help us showcase all that Eltham High Street has to offer.”
