Emirates Airlines, Greenwich Cable Car Owner, Celebrates 30 Years Of Flying

Emirates Airline, parent company and owner/operator of the Emirates Cable Car, which takes passengers on an obove-the-land trip from North Greenwich/02 Arena to the Royal Docks, turned 30 on Sunday, having commenced business on the 25 of October, 1985.

A pet child of the Dubai government, Emirates started business with only 2 aircrafts, leased from the Pakistani Airlines. Today, the Emirates connect 147 destinations in 70 countries on 5 continents.

It was required to operate independent of government subsidies on inception and, apart from $10 million in start-up capital, it has had to work its way to success over the years.

The airline with its hub at the Dubai International Airport now operates with 240 planes. It has 267 more on order.

But even 30 years ago, Emirates had its vision rooted on innovation and from now to the next 30 years, according to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, it's vision is still "routed on innovation - to reinvent aviation with new products, technologies and services."

Statistically speaking, Emirates Airline is the world’s biggest international carrier, the seventh largest airline in the world in terms of revenue, and the largest airline in the Middle East in terms of revenue, fleet size, and passengers carried, according to a Wiki report.

The airline is also the fourth-largest airline in the world in terms of international passengers carried, and the third largest in terms of scheduled passenger-kilometres flown,

The company also operates four of the world's longest non-stop commercial flights from Dubai to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, and Houston.

Furthermore, Emirates plans on launching the longest non-stop commercial flight in the world, from Dubai to Panama City, in February 2016.
