Seven-year-olds in Royal Greenwich Make Top Ten Nationally

Royal Greenwich primary schools are among the best in England according to the latest national assessment results for seven-year-olds, published by the Government.

In reading, writing and maths, Royal Greenwich is in the top ten boroughs in England, for the proportion of pupils achieving Level 2B+ (the higher range of the ‘expected standard’ for 7 year olds) at Key Stage 1.

The Royal Borough is also in the top ten boroughs in England, for the proportion of pupils who exceeded the expected standard, and were assessed as Level 3 or above in all three subjects.

In their assessments for writing, Royal Greenwich pupils came joint first with Central Bedfordshire, for the proportion who achieved Level 3 or above; while for maths the borough came joint second alongside Surrey for the proportion of pupils achieving Level 3 or above.

The achievement builds on the excellent start that children receive in the Early Years.

For reading, the highest performing primary schools were Halstow in Greenwich, Deansfield in Eltham, St Patrick’s in Plumstead, Our Lady of Grace RC School in Charlton, and Meridian in Greenwich. Coming top in writing were Brooklands in Blackheath, James Wolfe in Greenwich, Our Lady of Grace, St Mary Magdalene in Woolwich and Deansfield in Eltham. In maths, the top achievers were Deansfield, Halstow, Brooklands, Our Lady of Grace, and St Patrick’s.

Cllr John Fahy (above), Deputy Leader of the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “These are astonishing results – our best ever. Our primary schools have risen to the challenge to do even better than they were doing before."
