Abbey Wood: Wilton Road set for ‘A Very Abbey Christmas’ With Santa, Real Reindeer and a Christmas Market

by our RGB Correspondent | Woolwich

Real reindeer, a Santa’s Grotto and festive craft activities all form part of an exciting Christmas event for visitors to Abbey Wood on Sunday 6 December.

From 10am until 2pm, 12 stalls will sell food and gifts while children will be able to make badges, create Christmas baubles, decorate cupcakes and have their faces painted.

Young people will also be able to make a free visit to Father Christmas in his grotto and see live reindeer in their warm pen; the perfect setting for a family Christmas photograph.

The market is being held in the car park of the Abbey Arms Public House and is being supported by both the Royal Borough of Greenwich and Bexley Council, as part of an improvement programme for the high street at Wilton Road, funded by both Council’s and the Mayor of London’s High Street Fund.

Local ward councillor and Leader of the Royal Borough, Councillor Denise Hyland, said: “By putting on a Christmas Farmers Market and event, the Council, along with our partners in Bexley, is taking the first steps in our plans to improve the shopping experience on Wilton Road and increase the resilience of local traders.

Crossrail will, and is already, bringing massive changes to the area, and our on-going support to businesses in the area that will involve physical improvements to shops, the environment and potentially further events will make sure local businesses and traders are equipped to take full advantage of this opportunity.”

Councillor Linda Bailey (top left), Bexley’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration and Growth, said: “This event is a great opportunity to bring new shoppers to Abbey Wood, to show them what the high street has to offer.”

If you wish to take a free stall to sell crafts or gifts at this event please contact the event organiser, Sally Williams, 07889 173101 or send email to sally@retailrevival.org.uk.
