NHS Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and its partner Enabled City, an independent company, have today released a motion graphics film which explains how the National Framework for NHS continuing healthcare (CHC) works in practice. The film aims to help adults who have complicated, intense or unpredictable healthcare needs understand better how the NHS decides if someone’s day-to-day care and support should be funded entirely by the NHS.
Having a good understanding of how the national policy operates in practice is important, as if people are eligible for NHS continuing healthcare, they do not pay anything towards the costs of their care. This can make an enormous difference to people in their day-to-day lives.
The film is the result of joint working between NHS Greenwich CCG and Enabled City. The two organisations found that although the National Framework for NHS continuing healthcare is very clear and helpful, it is also very long and complicated, and many people find it difficult to understand. The two organisations decided to jointly develop a film that would help explain the National Framework in a simple, informative and entertaining way.

Dr Ellen Wright (top left), Clinical Chair of NHS Greenwich Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We’re delighted to release our film about the national NHS continuing healthcare policy framework. We really do hope it will help people understand the policy better, and make the process of how the NHS makes decisions on NHS-funded care more transparent. We are proud of this innovative film and we very much hope it will be well-received by patients and their families.”
Alick Mackenzie (right), Director of Enabled City, said: “This is a very complicated policy, and we’ve worked hard to explain it in simple language that people and their families can understand. We’ve used animated graphics and visual images to ensure the film entertains as well as informs, and we hope people enjoy it as much as they find it useful."
He said, "We’ve also published the script for the film with additional Word-Bank© definitions, which help explain some of the more difficult words and phrases in even greater detail. We’re very pleased to have worked in partnership with NHS Greenwich CCG on this, and we’re very proud of the end result.”
