Saturday 5 December is Small Business Saturday – the national event which puts the spotlights on independent local traders – and Royal Greenwich is encouraging residents to support their favourite shops and businesses - and buy local.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich is once again supporting the national campaign, which it hopes will have a lasting impact on local businesses and economy. Last year’s Small Business Saturday saw 16.5 million people out nationally, spending a total of £550 million with small businesses on the day.
With the lead up to Christmas shopping now in full swing, now is just the time for people to show their support for their favourite local shop or business and buy local. Greenwich borough offers a wide range of small, family-owned businesses and independent traders offering everything from arts and crafts to ride-on zebra toys for the kids
Councillor Sizwe James (top right), Cabinet Member for Business, Employment and Skills, said: “Small Business Saturday gives the borough’s independent stores a unique opportunity to meet new customers and win them over with friendly and personal service, ensuring they continue to shop local. We want to ensure our local economy is strong, and we can all do our bit by going out on Small Business Saturday and showing our support for our favourite local stores.
To make the most of the day, residents can also take advantage of a variety of discounts available with the new Greenwich One Card. I encourage businesses and residents throughout Royal Greenwich to take part.”
One Card membership gives access to a wide range of discounts and money off products and services at participating local businesses, including The O2, ExCeL, Greenwich Theatre and local shops and restaurants.
People in receipt benefits, full-time students or senior citizens can apply for a Higher Saver card – go to your local leisure centre to discuss the different membership options.
Where to get special offers and discounts.
Participating businesses and attractions will display the new Greenwich One Card sticker in the window.
