Sainsbury's Blazing Trail With Poppy Appeal For Charity

Sainsbury's is blazing the trail with its Poppy Appeal Charity run.  The giant supermarket is teaming up with the Royal British Legion to stick-on poppies, whose proceeds will be channeled to charity.


In a news briefing made available to Woolwich Online, Sainsbury's revealed it has supported the annual Poppy Appeal for the last 20 years, raising over £7 million for the charity last year alone.

This year, the High Street Chain, which has firmly absorbed the shocks from challenges posed by budget chains Lidl and Aldi, enlisted the help of members of the The Royal British Legion.

In the photo above, 31 year old Mark Stonelake, from Cornwall is seen delivering one of the first stick-on poppies available this year with Sainsbury's online deliveries. Last week , he presented the first poppy of this year’s campaign to Prime Minister David Cameron.


Mark, a former Gunner with 29 Commando Regiment Royal Artillery, had his left leg amputated in December 2008 after his vehicle hit a roadside bomb in Afghanistan.

The Royal British Legion provided Mark with support during his recovery and paid for a wet room to be installed in his home. He has been helping to raise awareness of their work for the past five years.

Sainsbury’s online customers can choose to add a donation to the Poppy Appeal as part of their Sainsbury’s online grocery shop, for orders that are delivered up until 11 November 2015, and will receive a stick-on poppy with their delivery.

Online poppy deliveries have been introduced to make it easy for all Sainsbury’s customers to make their donation to the Legion. Sainsbury’s poppies are recycled at the end of the campaign.
