Union Bosses Say RMT Ready For Talks Despite Successful Strike

by Benson Agoha | DLR Strike

Two Woolwich DLR exits remained firmly locked this morning, as the staff executed the second day of a planned 2-day strike.

RMT and Keolis Amey which manages the Docklands Light Railways are at loggerheads and were unable to reach agreement on key issues that have nothing to day with money.

Even though some staff were at work on Tuesday, it was only to take care of back office duties as there were no trains to convey passengers to their destinations.

Despite the strike, the national rail and other road transport absorbed the pressure and by the evening most workers were able to make it home without major disruption.

Reflecting on the outcome of the strikes, Union General Secretary, Mick Cash said: "For a second day of this dispute on Docklands Light Railway RMT members remain united, determined and rock solid in their industrial action.

"RMT members have made it crystal clear that they will not be bullied into accepting changes that undermine both their jobs and operational safety.

"There is no excuse for Keolis Amey to dig their heads in the sand in the face of the very clear anger they have generated across the DLR workforce and it's down to them to now face up to the issues at the heart of this dispute.

"RMT's executive is monitoring the situation and the union remains available for meaningful talks. "
