Christmas is set to start with a bang in Woolwich on 5 December as a spectacular fireworks display is set to light up the sky as part of the Royal Borough of Greenwich’s annual Woolwich Winter Warmer.
All local residents are invited to come along and enjoy the festive event which takes place between 12 and 5.30pm in General Gordon Square and Powis Street, Woolwich.
This year’s event will be themed around “Toys” and as such local families can watch many popular “Toy” related and Christmas related films on the Big Screen and set eyes on the fantastic ice sculpture!
The traditional Christmas parade will also make its way through local streets with local children showing off Toy themed lanterns they have made especially for the event. You can sample a range of delicious food and festive gifts at a small Christmas market which will take place in the Square.
Throughout the day, a variety of festive themed strolling characters will be entertaining the audiences and shoppers in General Gordon Square and along Powis street.
Local acts will be putting on an afternoon of unforgettable entertainment on a music stage where you listen to a school choir, hip hop and R&B. A remarkable pantomime will also perform on the main stage to wow the audiences.
If you need to step inside and warm up, what better way to do it than taking advantage of some of the special offers local shops will be offering to residents who hold a Greenwich One Card. From Linens Direct and Exposed Fashions, there’s something for anyone looking for special offers that cannot be refused.
The Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Creative Industries, Councillor Miranda Williams said: “The Woolwich Winter Warmer is set to be another fantastic and fun event for all the family.
There will be something for everyone – ranging from fairground rides to live music and a pyrotechnic display near the main stage. The event also provides local residents with a great opportunity to support their local high street in the run up to Christmas. I’d encourage everyone to come down to the event and soak up the atmosphere!”
