Wreckage of US Cargo Ship, El Faro, Sunk On October 1, 2015, Found

The wreckage of El Faro, the American flagged Cargo ship that disappeared on Thursday, October 1, 2015 has been found, according to Fox News.

At the time of its disappearance cause by Hurricane Joaquin near the Bahamas, the RORO (Roll-on/Roll-off) Cargo Ship was carrying some 33 personnel, made of 28 Americans and 5 Poles.

El Faro was driven by a single shaft, doubl reduction compound steam turbine. It was clocking 22 knots (equivalent of 41 km/h or 25 mph) when it disappeared. Yesterday, National Transportation Safety Board said, the ship was found at a depth of 15,000.

El Faro went through several changes of name. When built in 1975 by Sun Shipbuilding and Drydock Corporation, it was called `Puerto Rico'. Later, after it was sold, the new buyer renamed it `Northern Lights'.

After an extension to its length that added 90 feet (27 m),  and a lengthy service for the US Military campaign in Iraq, it was renamed El Faro.

When it sank on October 1, 2015, it was scheduled to return to Tacoma to relieve another vessel.
