Chelsea Submits Stadium Upgrade Plan For Stamford Bridge

Chelsea FC has submitted a planning application for a new stadium at Stamford Bridge, with an expanded seating capacity to the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham, according to statement made available to Woolwich Online.

The application made on 19th November 2015, contains full drawings, reports and correspondence necessary to help the council reach a decision on whether to approve or not.

The plan to build a new football stadium within Stamford Bridge Grounds has been under consideration for some years and Chelsea has been looking for alternative temporary ground for use during the construction.

The application, which is being examined for validity by John Sanchez, Principal Planning Officer - Planning Regeneration, London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, has a statutory period for determination on or before 18th February 2016.

Chelsea's application is seeking to demolish the existing stadium, which has a capacity of 41,600 seats and other buildings within the ground, and, in their place, to construct a new, larger football stadium with a 60,000 seating capacity.

There will also be features for ancillary stadium-related uses that includes a club shop and museum. The new stadium will also have a separate restaurant/cafe.

The new stadium involves both excavation works and the construction of new external concourse areas.

The main details of the application are:

The statement said the planning process will last beyond the end of the season and if the application is granted planning permission, there will still be a lot of work to do before redevelopment can start, including obtaining various other consents.

While the new stadium is being built, Chelsea will share the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Stadium with West Ham FC.
