In an interview by Sky News, the MP for Old Southwark and Bermondsey, elected on May 7, 2015 told Sky News he did not believe the man was actually genuine or that he would make good his promise to target him around London Bridge where he lives.
He said however that Twitter has suspended the account and that Police said they would send an officer to his Surgery.
According to a report in Politics Home Mr. Coyle had said “I took that vote based on my constituents’ interest and that has led to abuse and some vile threats. In the main most people are fine but there is this vociferous minority that think that they can make these threats and abuse people,” he told Sky News.
He said: “My concern is also for my staff and my volunteers in the local Labour party volunteers who give their time… and are not being told we need security for our events and things like that. That’s unacceptable," adding ""I also have my wife to worry about, my home address was put online, I have to worry about my wife who’s pregnant. Fundamentally there is something wrong about people who think it’s okay to make these kinds of threats.”
