Britian has been ranked 4th on the list of most generous nations in the world, according a new report on Forbes.

Niall McCarthy, a Data journalist described as covering technological, societal and media topics sent in the contribution in which he claims that when it comes to the sheer number of people donating money to charity, the United Kingdom ranks among the best four at the top.

India tops the list at 92% while Thailand comes 3rd at 87%. The tiny Island of Malta, located in Mediterranean sea between Sicily and the North African coast, with a World Bank 2013 population estimate of 423,282, comes in at a surprising third position with 78%.

Only the United States comes close to India and both nations are described the world’s top two nations with 184 and 164 million people making monthly donations respectively in 2014.

However, in percentage terms, the people of Myanmar are the world’s most generous, according to CAF’s World Giving Index.

When interviewed in 2014, 92 percent of respondents in Myanmar said that they donated money to charity over the previous month, adding up to a grand total of 37 million people.

Thailand comes second with 87 percent of respondents making a donation during the month prior to the survey.

A high proportion of Theravada Buddhists practising Sangha Dana in both countries is one of the primary reasons for the generous donation rate.

Niall McCarthy used 2014 statistics of respondents as part of his analysis data.

Many front-line European nations, did not even feature among the top ten.  Remarkably German, France, Belgium, Italy and Spain are among the advanced countries missing from the top ten.

But Holland followed UK on the 5th position with 73*, as did New Zealand (73*) and Australia (72*) both of which came in at 6th and 7th respectively.

Ireland, Indonesia and Canada took the 8th, 9th, and 10th positions respectively, but in percentage terms, all three came in at 67%.
