Ethiopian Airlines Successfully Deploy An All Female Crew On An International Flight

by Benson Agoha | In Woolwich

Ethiopian Airlines have been celebrating for successfully deploying an all-female crew on an international flight from Addis Ababa to Bangkok, Thailand.

The milestone was not just a source of joy for its success as it is for being the first of its kind in the entire history of the 70-year old airline in which the whole crew was female. And not just the cockpit and cabin crew, but also maintenance crew members and air traffic controllers.

Ethiopian made history last month by sending an all-female crew on the Thailand.

CEO Ethiopian Airlines, Tewolde GebreMariam (top left and with President Obama below), spoke on the historic event saying "this is an opportunity to inspire young African female students to believe in their dreams and embark to fill the skill gap for Aviation professionals".

The largely profitable airline is one of Africa's stable, and is in fact ranked 5th among the 10 leading African carriers - all due largely to it's management's efficient and operational success on the field.

It operates the lion‟s share of the pan African network that includes the daily and double daily east-west flight across the continent. And it currently serves 66 international destinations operating the newest and youngest fleets.

Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopian) is the flag carrier of Ethiopia. It ranks 5th in Africa - after South African Airways in first position followed by Air Seychelles; Air Mauritius and Kulula Airways, another South African `no-frills' airline franchised by British Airways.

Ethiopian Airlines specialises in Passenger Services, Cargo Services, Aircraft Maintenance, Aviation Academy, Charter, Ground Handling and Flight Catering.
