Stab On Education Correspondent Penetrate Him While Reporting With A Stab-Proof Vest

by Jerusalem Post | Middle East

An Israeli reporter was stabbed while wearing a protective vest, but it did not save him, Jerusalem post reported Wednesday.

Eitam Lachover found out technology can fail after donning the vest in front of the camera, and yet the knife penetrated when stabbed, injuring him lightly.

It is one of the harzards of the journalism profession, particularly when covering news live in a turbulent situation. But it is one thing to be exposed to a crisis environment and another for technology designed to protect you in time of need fails to do so.

But for journalists who are field reporters, the profession also carries a lot of risks and Eitam Lachover, the education reporter for the Israel broadcasting Authority’s Channel 1 discovered when he went to cover the story outside his regular beat.

But he was not the only one who learnt a lesson with the incident. The manufacturers, who were hoping for a better result during the field trialing, learnt they would have to do more too.

According to JP Lachover went out on Wednesday morning to do a news story wearing bullet-proof and knife-proof safety vests used by both civilians and the defense establishment.

In the course of interviewing people for the segment, he met with representatives of the company that manufactures the vests and was persuaded to be a guinea pig and agree to be stabbed while wearing the safety vest.

Highly embarrassed, the company representatives rendered immediate medical treatment before transferring Lachover for medical treatment at a hospital, where a surgeon stitched up the wound.
