Royal Borough of Greenwich residents have signed up for lower fuel prices in the latest round of the Big London Energy Switch. They have joined over 6,000 people who have joined the scheme since it started in the borough in 2013, enabling them to find better deals on their gas and electricity bills.
Households in the October round of the switch saved an average of £290 on their annual bills. The ‘Big London Energy Switch’ is a collective switching scheme which the Royal Borough of Greenwich and a number of other London councils promote.
Royal Borough of Greenwich residents have signed up for lower fuel prices in the latest round of the Big London Energy Switch. They have joined over 6,000 people who have joined the scheme since it started in the borough in 2013, enabling them to find better deals on their gas and electricity bills.
Households in the October round of the switch saved an average of £290 on their annual bills. The ‘Big London Energy Switch’ is a collective switching scheme which the Royal Borough of Greenwich and a number of other London councils promote.
The increased numbers signing up to the scheme has allowed energy providers to offer even more competitive prices. Once registered, households receive details of how much money they can save, although there is no obligation to proceed any further if they don’t wish to.
Households that signed up before the February deadline, and want to go ahead, need to accept their offers by Tuesday 15 March.

Cllr Chris Kirby, Cabinet Member for Housing, said: “There’s no obligation to switch, so it’s worth signing up and see if you could save. The more people that join up, the greater the savings that can be made.”
The next switch is anticipated to take place in spring but in the interim, the Royal Borough of Greenwich will be continuing to run ‘Warm Homes’ events in the borough to consult on the Greener Greenwich Strategy, showcase energy efficiency improvements made to estates and provide advice to residents.
The next Warm Homes event will take place this Wednesday, 24 February from 11am-3pm at the Barnfield Hub, Herbert Place. Residents interested in the event can contact the Friends of Barnfield community hub to learn how the council is tackling fuel poverty and supporting residents with other energy issues.
