by our RBG Correspondent | Woolwich

Royal Greenwich will be wearing its title with pride this June when the Queen celebrates her 90th birthday.

And it is supporting the Clean for the Queen campaign, which is calling for volunteers to help clear up Britain in time for the festivities.

Individuals, schools, volunteer groups are all being urged to do their bit now and over the special clean-up weekend on March 4-6.

Councillor Jackie Smith (top right), Royal Borough of Greenwich cabinet member for community safety & environment, said: “This is a great way to show our appreciation for Her Majesty the Queen and all her many years for service for this country. “The council is planning to get involved over the weekend but in the meantime, do get in touch if you want to take part to help make our royal borough shine.”

The campaign is also supported by the London Mayor, who is also offering grants of up to £1,500 for his annual Capital Clean-up scheme.

Up to 100 clean-up kits are being donated for the March Clean for the Queen weekend.

Anyone wanting to take part in the Clean for the Queen campaign can call the council’s environment champions number on 020 8921 5618 or email: community-environment@royalgreenwich.gov.uk.
