EU Referendum - "The Choice Is In Your Hands", PM Tell Britons As He Names June Date

Prime Minister David Cameron has Saturday confirmed that a referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union will be held on:

 

 Thursday 23 June, 2016.

Prime Minister David Cameron said on twitter yesterday that he had negotiated a deal that would give the UK special status in the European Union. Today, a Sky News report said he hailed the deal with the European Union as 'Historic'.

As the date is set, the PM said he would campaign with "all my heart and soul" to keep Britain inside the EU after the deal to redraw the terms of Britain's membership of the EU.

But negotiations still dragged till the early hours of Saturday morning, according to the Guardian.

In a statement, the PM warned that leaving the European Union would be a "leap in the dark" and urged voters to back his reform deal.

He said: "Those who want to leave Europe cannot tell you if British businesses would be able to access Europe's free trade single market, or if working people's jobs are safe, or how much prices would rise. All they're offering is a risk at a time of uncertainty - a leap in the dark."

He appealed to voters, saying: "The choice is in your hands - but my recommendation is clear. I believe that Britain will be safer, stronger and better off by remaining in a reformed European Union."

Any concessions to Britain on the deal may also mean that other members states may benefit from them.

 

For example, a report on the Guardian say the British deal was a good compromise that introduced "a number of very interesting and valuable changes to the EU", and that Germany would consider introducing similar restrictions on Child Benefit.
