Want A Job In Tourism? Attend These Upcoming Events In Royal Greenwich

Residents keen on working in the tourism, leisure and travel industry can make reservations for three events where they can get expert advice on getting a job.

The free events are part of Workzone, a new initiative to encourage people to consider careers in tourism. They are being run jointly by Visit Greenwich and Greenwich Local Labour and Business (GLLaB), in partnership with Greenwich Community College and Job Centre Plus.

Visit Greenwich is the company that promotes the borough as a great place to visit, live, work and study. It works with all kinds of tourism businesses all over the borough including museums, transport providers, hotels, markets, restaurants, bars and entertainment venues.

The events are:

(1) Thursday, March 3, at the Greenwich Heritage Centre in Artillery Square, Woolwich, at 12 noon.

(2) Monday, March 14, at the Tudor Barn, Eltham, at 11.30am.

(3) Tuesday, March 15, at Visit Greenwich’s headquarters at Mitre Passage on the Greenwich Peninsula, at 2.30pm.

Mentors from the industry will be on hand to talk about how they got into their careers. Each event will last about an hour-and a- half and involves some team-working, and hearing from people who are currently working in the tourism industry in Greenwich. People will be able to chat with them and with GLLaB staff, who can help them work on their CVs and interview technique.

Councillor Sizwe James, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Business, Employment and Skills, said: “Greenwich is the place where you can build on your skills and abilities and start a job that could turn into a career. These events can help you find real opportunities in catering, marketing, hospitality, finance, customer relations and much more."

Barrie Kelly, Chief Executive of Visit Greenwich, said: “Tourism is a vital part of the borough’s economy, already employing over 15,000 people and is set to grow. We share a commitment with the council to helping ensure that local people have the best possible chance to take advantage of those opportunities.”
