A former Military Leader In Nigeria has spoken out to rebuff rumours making the rounds that he has died, Vanguard Newspapers report Monday.

President Ibrahim Babangida, who set off a major constitutional crisis in Nigeria after he annulled the Presidential election in 1993, spoke to newsmen at his residence in Minna, Niger State.

He said the rumour of his death did not come as a shock to him, and that nobody was above sickness or death because it had been destined by God.

The former President, who later handed over power to Chief Earnest Shonekan as Head of the Interim National Government (ING) and charged him with the responsibility of conducting a national election, while he 'stepped aside', told the media that he believed everybody will die.

The Nigerian statesman said: “The rumour does not shock me, neither does it bother me because I know I must go and meet God my creator. There is nothing really to worry about, my religion has told me. Well, as a Muslim, I strongly believe everybody will die, everybody will die and everybody has to die. It could be now or in hundred years time or two days to come, but it doesn’t matter, everybody must die.”
