A service that helps residents with disabilities to enjoy a full and independent life is looking to recruit new carers.
Royal Greenwich Shared Lives is a unique initiative which recruits ordinary people within the local community to provide accommodation, care and support for adults with a learning disability and other support needs.
The support offered by carers enables them to live as independent a life as possible, living as part of the carer’s family and within the local community.
Potential carers will need a spare room in their home and the capacity to provide the required care and support to the person placed. Previous experience in the care field is desirable but not essential and the scheme is keen to recruit carers from all sections of the local community.
In return the Council will pay a placement fee for each person placed and provide the carer with training and on-going support.
Cllr David Gardner, Royal Borough of Greenwich’s Cabinet Member for Adult Care, said: “The Council is committed to ensuring that people with disabilities can live as independent a life as possible and the Shared Lives service is a great illustration of this. Our Shared Lives carers play a fantastic role, giving people with disabilities a chance to integrate fully into the life of their families and their local community."
“Carers tell us time and again how rewarding they find the role – and I would encourage anyone interested to contact us to find out more about what’s involved.”
Council staff will be promoting the service at a number of locations across the borough during April and May, followed by an open event in June where people can come along and find out more about what’s involved in being a carer.
