When it comes to building bridges, the Chinese take it a little very seriously. Actually, one Chinese saying says that "People build walls, instead of bridges".

Bridge building is about building relationships, but its still not easy - in all its ramifications, majorly because the know how is often tasking.

But engineers have always managed to get around this from the beginning of time and have always brought about eye-popping achievements from design to construction. In war and in peace time, bridges have to be built.

Europe for example is replete with ancient, 2000 year-old bridges, designed and built by Roman generals during their conquests of the region. Many are called St. Julien, suspected to be named after the general in charge of building bridges in those days.

Building bridges become even more pronounced during growth time, as has been the case with China in recent years. Little surprise then that one Chinese company has reason to as the challenge of developing the right technology to make bridge building easier.

Beijing Wowjoint Machinery Company built the SL900/32, a 580 ton, 300 foot long and 24 ft wide mega machine looks more like a train than a crane and acts a lot like a Stretch Armstrong action figure.

Now monster machine that offers the creative way of setting girders into place.

So instead of using a stationary or crawler crane to lift the girder of a bridge from the ground and drop it into its place, the SLJ900/32 drives the girder onto the previously placed girder, slowly extends its arms to the next support platform, pushes the girder towards the front of the machine and then lowers it into place."

The video below explains how this tough job is made easy through creative deployment of engineering skill.
