This year’s Mental Health Awareness Week (16-22nd May), the theme is healthy and supportive relationships and their importance in maintaining good mental health. The Greenwich Mental Health and Wellbeing Forum - which represents a range of local organisations offering services to support people’s mental health and wellbeing - is running a series of awareness raising events promoting healthy and supportive relationships.

To celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, The Recovery College Greenwich is hosting an old-fashioned style market at their central location in Equitable House, Woolwich, on Wednesday 18th May 11am-4pm. Stall holders will be selling homemade cakes and food and plants they have grown, as well as providing local wellbeing products and services. There will be information stalls, and visitors will be able to indulge themselves with Thai foot massage, Reiki and Reflexology.

The Forum has produced flyers to be inserted within library in books at libraries within the Royal Borough of Greenwich, Greenwich University and Ravensbourne College, showcasing the key elements that make up healthy relationships, such as communication, boundaries and trust. Organisations to contact for help maintaining healthy relationships and good mental health will also be holding displays in the libraries.

The Forum will be encouraging the public to get involved with the conversation around healthy relationships and mental health with the hashtag #AllOfUsGreenwich, designed to raise awareness that mental health affects ‘All Of Us.’

Katy Grazebrook, Lead Clinical Psychologist at Greenwich Time to Talk and Co-Chair of the Forum, said: “This Mental Health Awareness Week we are celebrating healthy and supportive relationships by talking to residents of the Borough about what it takes to maintain such relationships. More than healthy diet or exercise, strong social networks improve our mental wellbeing. From family and friends, to colleagues and neighbours, taking notice of those connections makes you feel safe and supported,

“We are encouraging people to start the conversation about healthy relationships, key to maintaining good mental health. Come along and read our information throughout the Borough and browse our stalls at the College, while indulging in a massage or some Reiki! Have a great day out while raising awareness for mental health.”

Cllr David Gardner, the Royal Borough’s Cabinet member for health, social care and public health, said: “Services that support mental wellbeing are a priority for the council and promoting awareness of mental health and ways to improve it are at the forefront of our public health strategy.”

The old-fashioned market will be held on Wednesday 18th May 11-4pm at: Recovery College Greenwich, First Floor, Equitable House, 10 Woolwich New Road, London, SE18 6AB.
