There Is Still Time To Switch And Save, Royal Greenwich Reminds Residents

Householders in the Royal Borough of Greenwich could make significant savings on their energy bills by registering for the Big London Energy Switch (BLES) this month.

The energy auction is run by a number of London councils, including the Royal Borough of Greenwich. It uses collective bargaining to get energy companies to compete to offer their best prices. The more people who register for the BLES, the greater the buying power meaning a lower the price may be offered.

Royal Greenwich residents have already benefited from the BLES since it began in 2013, with over £250,000 saved by local members who switched. Last year alone, £141,000 was saved collectively by residents who signed up to the big switch.

The next auction takes place on Monday 16 May and local people are urged to sign up by then for the chance to enjoy the potential savings. Once signed up, members receive details of the savings they could make if they accept the energy company’s offer – with no obligation to accept the offer.

Local people can get further advice on the BLES at the Energy Advice Café which offers visitors friendly, independent advice about their bills over a free hot drink and a slice of cake.

Visitors are advised to take their energy bill or statement to help pinpoint where they can save money. Those who do so will receive a free £7 LED light bulb.

Run by the South East London Community Energy (SELCE), the café is open at the Woolwich Centre and is open 10am-4pm every Monday (except Bank Holidays) until 13 June.
