Petition For Second Referendum Passes 3 Million And Still Growing

More than three million and forty-nine thousand (3,049) people have signed a petition set up by a person on the `Leave' side calling for a re-run. But it is happening as a paradox for him and like most people who miscalculated, before the vote, his actions appear to be backfiring.



The petition for a second referendum on EU membership, hosted on the parliament website because he feared Remain was going to win, but as it turned out, the Leave won, but his petition then began raging after many people became downcast following the immediate aftermath of the result.

Before the referendum, many MP voiced their opinion, calling for Prime Minister David Cameron to continue in office, whatever the outcome of the result. But as it turned out, the PM announced he was stepping down and would not be part of the negotiations.

Oliver Healeys petition however, then caught the fire and protests have mounted, calling for a re-run.

Member of Parliament for Tottenham, David Lammy MP tweeted that the vote was non-binding and could be reversed, saying "We don't have to do this...we still can reverse it".

And on Sunday morning, former Prime Minister Tony Blair said it was still possible to reverse the result if sufficient people expressed their opinion in that regard.

But UKIP Leader and Leave leader, Nigel Farage said it was not so simple.

As reality begin to hit home, even many Leave voters appear to be wondering if they did the right thing.

The petitioner said he felt there was "no guarantee of a leave victory at that time" and so set up the petition "with the intention of making it harder for 'remain' to further shackle us to the EU". It seems to be working the other way round now and he does not seem to like it.

The petition read "We the undersigned call upon HM Government to implement a rule that if the remain or leave vote is less than 60% based (on) a turnout less than 75% there should be another referendum."

The petition was only targeting 100,000 signatures but has now shot way beyond it more than 3,049 million. It will now have to be considered for debate by MPs

But he is encouraging his fellow leavers to keep the faith saying.."To my fellow leavers, now doubting their decision please keep the faith, we will be fine just stick with it."

As the ripples from the outcome of reverberates across the political landscape, many Labour MPs are quitting the Shadow cabinet.
